The Backwards BBQ - Burger Wellington
We're back, it's backwards and there's BBQ involved - but it's not what you'd expect.
Burger Wellington 2021 kicks off this week and Tola & Chantha - store owners of Winner Winner Courtenay Place - are back for round two with this year's entry into Burger Welly 'The Backwards BBQ'. Rolling off the back of last year's burger, 'An ode to Big Bob' (in which the team were stoked to have their burger selected as one of the 'Top 5 People's Choice'), Tola & Chantha are excited to get stuck into another round of burger fun alongside some epic Wellington eateries.
Simple by name, but in no way simple. The Backwards BBQ to the outside eye looks (and smells) just like your ordinary BBQ bacon & chicken burger; but true to form with this year's Burger Wellington theme 'out of place', this burger is definitely not what it seems.
We've used the element of surprise as this year's inspiration. Take a bite into our BBQ, Bacon & Chicken Burger where everything is built - backwards. The fried chicken is buttermilk fried pork belly; the bacon is chicken; instead of a cheese slice, we've opted for a 'slice' of freeze-dried BBQ sauce; and instead of traditional BBQ sauce, the sauce is creamy, cheesy mayo. Very Alice in Wonderland. All finished off with the usual suspects: our sweet Winner Winner bun and Apostle slaw. Served with a chicken skin chippy & Kiwi onion dip on the side for good measure.

Buttermilk fried pork belly, streaky chicken bacon, a freeze-dried BBQ sauce ‘slice’, cheese mayo, Apostle slaw and McClure's sweet & spicy pickles. Served with a chicken skin chippy & Kiwi onion dip for good measure.
